INTERIOR DESIGNER | CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION


DIRECT REPORT : Director | Construction Documentation
FULL TIME : 40 HOURS PER WEEK
WORKING HOURS : 9AM -5PM EST
REMOTE POSITION : Must live in NC or SC


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interior Designer | Construction Documentation is responsible for translating approved Design Development packages into comprehensive, accurate, and coordinated construction documentation. This role focuses on producing detailed interior drawings that clearly communicate design intent, technical requirements, and constructability to contractors, consultants, and project partners. Working closely with the Design Development team and consultants, the Interior Designer | Construction Documentation ensures that all interior drawings, schedules, and details align with the finalized design direction while meeting code requirements and industry standards.

The Interior Designer | Construction Documentation will work independently and collaborate closely with multiple design team members to ensure the successful completion of construction documentation sets. This is an early to mid-career position that operates with structured guidance and regular review from senior team members and department leadership, supporting skill development and professional growth. Success in this role is defined by precision, clarity, proactive coordination, a blend of creativity, and a strong understanding of how design decisions translate into commercial construction work.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Collaborate effectively with team members to support cohesive project execution

  • Comply with company templates, design process and presentation standards

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Communicate effectively and present projects to clients

  • Create, build and maintain professional relationships with current and perspective clients


CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

  • Produce detailed plans, elevations, sections, schedules, details, and revisions that clearly communicate design intent and constructability throughout various milestones and phases of a project

  • Ensure all construction documents are code compliant, accurate and meeting industry standards

  • Coordinate and review architectural, structural, MEP, low voltage, fire protection, fitness consultants, and other specialty consultant drawings and documentation to ensure full integration with interior scope

  • Support Construction Administration team by providing document clarification, updates, and participation in site visits as required


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field required

  • 3-5+ years of commercial design firm experience required

  • AutoCAD required

  • Intermediate knowledge of materials, commercial construction techniques, specifications and commercial building codes and regulations required

  • Bluebeam, Google Workspace, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite, REVIT and Sketchup experience preferred

  • Multi-family and/or hospitality experience preferred

  • RID licensure and NCIDQ certification completed or in progress preferred


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, or be on feet for extended periods during site visits

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–60 lbs. as needed

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform light physical tasks required during site visits

  • Comfortable working in active jobsite environments, which may include dust, noise, varying temperatures, use of on-site portable restrooms, or uneven surfaces


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Annual Required Travel: ~20-40 days to go to project site visits both instate and out of state (currently Southeast/Mid Atlantic and Southwest), plus 7-15 days for company events and conferences, as needed

  • Must live within an hour’s drive of a major airport

  • Must be comfortable traveling by air for projects located more than a 3 hours drive

  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain auto insurance coverage in accordance with company guidelines

  • Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle available for travel to project sites and company-related events

  • Ability to transport, by vehicle, samples or project materials, as needed
